PV Sindhu cruised into the semi finals of the World Badminton Championships in a mere 39 minutes to ensure India of their first medal by beating Sun Yu 21-14, 21-9. Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal had to toil hard for her win against Kristy Gilmour and eventually managed a 21-19, 18-21, 21-15 over the Scot.

Rio silver medalist PV Sindhu had to battle it hard in the pre-quarterfinal against Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong but eventually outplayed Yi 19-21, 23-21, 21-17. However, the quarter-final against China's Sun Yu was a completely different affair as the World No. 6 dominated the match from the word go and denied giving an inch to the Chinese. The match eventually ended in a flash with Sindhu cruising into the semi-finals. Sindhu will today face another Chinese opponent in Chen Yufei who has been seeded 9th in the competition.
On the other hand, Saina Nehwal was at her best when she outclassed World No. 3 Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-19 21-15 to ease into the quarters of the tournament. Saina's quarterfinal game, however, was not as easy as the round of 16
