HS Prannoy was far from his best as he bowed out of the Swiss Open to China's Shi Yuqi at the quarter-final yesterday. Prannoy’s loss combined with the exit of the mixed doubles pairing of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy means that the Indian campaign in Switzerland has come to an end.

Prannoy suffered a loss in straight games to Shi Yuqi of China in the quarter-finals of the event. Prannoy was seeded 5th and had beaten Yuqi at the Badminton Asia Team Championships last year but he was far from his best on the given day and went down 19-21 11-21 without putting up too much of a fight.

Earlier in the day, fourth-seeded mixed doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy also suffered the same fate as Prannoy, going down 19-21 17-21 to fifth-seeded Chinese duo, 19-21 17-21.

Yuqi had earlier beaten Prannoy at the 2015 Indonesian Masters, managed to open up a slender 11-9 lead at the break of the opening game. The Indian came out flying after the interval racing to an 18-13 lead, but the Chinese shuttler won the eight out of the next nine points to take the lead in the match.

In the second game, Yuqi asserted his dominance after the duo had shared the first 14 points to win the game 21-11 and seal a place in the semi-final of the Superseries event.
