PV Sindhu nominated for Padma Bhushan by Sports Ministry

PV Sindhu has been nominated for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award by the Sports Ministry on Monday. Sindhu was awarded India's fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri, in March 2015, has become the second athlete after MS Dhoni to have been nominated for the honour this year.

“Yes, we have recommended Sindhu for Padma Bhushan,” a Sports Ministry official told PTI.

Sindhu has been a force to be reckoned with in the world of badminton ever since becoming the first Indian woman to win a silver at Rio Games last year. Since Rio, she has won the 2016 China Open Super Series Premier and 2017 India Open Super Series before bagging the silver medal at the Glasgow World Championship. 

The current World No.2 clinched her third Super Series title at the Korea Open this month, becoming the first Indian to achieve the prestigious title. A three-time Macau Open champion, Sindhu also won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow this year. 

In 2014, Sindhu won four bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games, Incheon Asian Games, Uber Cup and Asia Championship. And for her achievements, in March 2015, Sindhu was awarded India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri.
