ATP Russia Open | Sourabh Verma, Mithun Manjunath win to setup an all Indian semi-final

Eighth seed Sourabh Verma beat third seed Misha Zilberman of Israel in straight games of 21-14, 21-16, while Mithun Manjunath defeated Satheishtharan Ramachandran 21-18, 21-12 to reach the semis. The Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg also made the semi-finals in Vladivostock.

Sourabh Verma sealed a spot in the semi-final of the USD 75,000 Russian Open BWF Tour Super 100 tournament today. Verma, who battled his way to selection in the upcoming Asian Games despite injury problems, beat Israel’s third seed Misha Zilberman 21-14, 21-16 in just 36 minutes. In doing so, Verma set up an exciting semi-final match against compatriot Mithun Manjunath after the latter also won his quarter-final match against Malaysia’s Satheishtharan Ramachandran. Manjunath beat his opponent in just 35 minutes to seal the semi-final spot.

There was more good news for Indian supporters as second seeded Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg also made their way to the semi-finals as they beat local favorites Andrej Loginov and Liliia Abibulaeva 21-13, 21-9 in the quarters. 

Amongst the women’s singles, it was the end of the line for former national champion Rituparna Das, who was knocked out of the tournament by a margin of 17-21, 13-21 to USA’s Iris Wang. Vrushali Gummadi also bowed out of the competition after she lost by a scoreline of 9-21, 11-21 to Yen Mei Ho of Malaysia.
