Denmark Open | Ashwini Ponnappa-Sikki Reddy advance as B Sai Praneeth crashes out

Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy brushed aside American sisters, Sydney Lee and Ariel Lee in a 21-7, 21-11 straight games victory to progress to the second round of the Denmark Open. But it was lights out for India's B Sai Praneeth who suffered defeat at the hands of China’s Huang Yuxiang.

In the women’s doubles category, the Indian duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy advanced to round two after they beat Ariel Lee and Sydney Lee of America by a comfortable scoreline of 21-7, 21-11 in a match that was wrapped up in under 20 minutes. Ponnappa, who was knocked out of the mixed doubles in the first round, along with Reddy dominated their match against the Lee sisters right from the word go.

But it was the end of the line for, Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha Ram who were beaten by the Swedish pair of Emma Karlson and Johanna Magnusson in the first round of the Denmark Open. The Indian pair were beaten in successive sets by a scoreline of 21-17. 21-11 in a match that lasted for half an hour. 

In the men’s singles category, Indian shuttler B Sai Praneeth suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of China’s Huang Yuxiang. Having won the opening game 21-12, Praneeth slumped to two consecutive 21-14, 21-15 losses against his Chinese counterpart in a match that went on for almost an hour.
