PV Sindhu reached the semi-final of the BWF World Championships for the third consecutive time after she stunned Tai Tzu Ying in the previous round. Like the last two years, the Indian ace shuttler has kept her for assuring in the tournament and would be aiming for gold after winning silver twice.
In a repeat of the 2017 World Championships semi-final, Sindhu would be facing the Chinese top seed in a mouth watering semi-final. On a positive note, the Indian had beaten the Chinese comfortably at that time, who was more of an emerging star. Now, she has developed into one of the most formidable opponents and world women tennis.
However, Sindhu herself has been in brilliant form of late and her tryst with the final of the BWF World Championships on previous occasions could also her reaching the summit clash yet again. Winning against the Taiwanese top seed would have given her a huge boost especially after the dreadful head-to-head record the Indian had until yesterday.
Chen, on the other hand, has had a good 2019 as well as she has extended from the China Open last year, where she had beaten Sindhu. Since then, Yufei has won the All England this year, to go with the Swiss Open, Indonesia Open and Australian Open titles. In fact, he win-loss record in 2019 looks an envious 39/5 compared to Sindhu’s 19/9.Â
While Sindhu leads the head to head 5-3, in a pressure match like this, those factors go out of the window.
