Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, and Parupalli Kashyap have managed to win their respective first round games in the singles category of the ongoing 2019 Malaysia Masters. The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Sikki Reddy has also qualified for the second round.

Srikanth dominated against his opponent – Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus from the very beginning of the match. Although in the first game, the Indian shuttler had only one-point lead at the break, he didn’t give any chance to Angus after that and took the game 21-17. The second game was much easier for Srikanth as he ended the match by taking the second one for 21-11.

In another men’s singles encounter, India’s Parupalli Kashyap made a stunning comeback after losing the first game to defeat Rasmus Gemke 19-21, 21-19, 21-10. After a closely-fought first game, the Indian shuttler came up with some excellent performance in the second one and drew level with the Danish shuttler. However, the 32-year-old Hyderabad shuttler had complete dominance against the world no. 20 in the decider as he won the game 21-10 to qualify for the second round of the tournament.

Pretty much like Kashyap, Saina was also down in her first game against Deng Joy Xuan before recovering well to get the better of the Hong Kong player 14-21, 21-18, 21-18 in the first round. Saina won the consecutive second and third games to make it to the second round in the women’s singles category in Malaysia. Saina won the match in an hour and five minutes.

After losing in the mixed doubles category with Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Sikki Reddy bounced back well with Ashwini Ponappa in the women’s doubles category and earned a berth in the next round. They got the better of the Hong Kong pair of NG Tsz Yau and Yuen Sin Ying 21-16, 22-20 in the first round match. Earlier, the mixed doubles pair of Reddy and Chopra was defeated by the Dutch duo of Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek 21-19, 21-17.
