Lone Indian in the fray after PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth bowed out of the tournament yesterday, Saina Nehwal fought her way to the finals after being one game down in the semifinal. In the tournament final, Saina will face Carolina Marin, who enroute her finals had defeated PV Sindhu.

Saina Nehwal defeated her Chinese opponent He Bingjiao 18-21, 21-12, 21-18 in the semifinal match of the 2019 Indonesia Masters to reach the finals of the tournament. Nehwal is the lone Indian remaining in the fray as Kidambi Srikanth and PV Sindhu had bowed out of the tournament yesterday.

In the first game of the match, Saina started on an impressive note and was leading at the midgame interval 11-7. But she lost her way when she was on 16 points and conceded five consecutive points to let her opponent claw back into the match. Saina lost her way after that and thereafter the Chinese did not look back and took the game 21-18.

Stunned by her opponent in the first game after leading most of it, Saina regained her composure and outplayed her Chinese opponent in the second game totally. After taking a quick lead in the second game, Saina maintained her lead almost throughout the game and finished it at 21-12.

In the third and final game of the match, though Bingjiao tried to keep Indian at touching distance, Saina outsmarted her opponent in 58 minutes and bagged the game 21-18. Saina will now meet Carolina Marin in the final of the tournament to be held tomorrow.
