All India Senior Ranking Badminton | Lakshya Sen, Gayatri Gopichand bag singles titles

Lakshya Sen won the men’s singles final at the All India senior ranking badminton tournament held at the Gopichand academy in Hyderabad. In the women’s singles category, 13th-seed P. Gayatri Gopichand was crowned champion after winning the summit clash against Tanvi Lad of the Petroleum board.

Uttarakhand’s Lakshya Sen got the better of local favourite C. Rahul Yadav in the final of the senior ranking tournament in Hyderabad on Sunday. Sen won the final, which went into the deciding game by a margin of 23-25, 21-14, 21-13. Sen had lost the first game but then ensured a stunning comeback to take the game away from the second seed Telangana shuttler.

In the women’s singles final, 13th-seed Gayatri defeated Tanvi Lad of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) in straight games. The Telangana girl took the match away from Lad by 21-19, 21-16 points in the final.

Gayatri also won the doubles event alongside Odisha’s Rutaparna Panda. The Telangana-Odisha pair won against Shikha Gautam (Air India) and K. Ashwini Bhat (Karnataka) 19-21, 21-14, 21-10 in the women’s doubles final. G. Krishna Prasad from Andhra Pradesh and Dhruv Kapila of Air India managed to beat seventh seed pair of Telangana’s P. Srikrishna Sai Kumar and Gouse Shaik from Andhra Pradesh in straight games 23-21, 21-17.

Gouse Shaik and Uttar Pradesh’s Mayuri Yadav won the mixed doubles final by beating Krishna Prasad and K. Ashwini Bhat of Karnataka by 21-19, 13-21, 21-12 points.
