HS Prannoy is of the belief that the Australian Open, which will begin from June 4, will be one of the toughest tournaments for the Indian shuttlers. Prannoy will meet experienced Chinese shuttler Lin Dan in the first round of the World Tour Super 300 badminton tournament next week.

With the Indian shuttlers preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and getting ready for the qualification rounds, the Australian Open is going to be a big event for them. Prannoy, who is also aiming for a spot in the sporting extravaganza, has opined that with a lot of badminton players in action at the Australian Open, the event will be a tough one for all the Indians participating in this.

“Australia is going to be tough. Because of Olympic qualification a lot of players are playing. And I have to play Lin Dan in the first (round). So one of the toughest tournaments for every one of us,” Prannoy was quoted as saying by Scroll.

“We had pretty good preparations [after the New Zealand]. After New Zealand (Open) I had around three and half to four weeks – so there was a good time to train considering the amount of tournaments which I have to play in the second half of the year. It is going to be really packed (schedule).”

The 26-year-old Indian shuttler was defeated by Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in the men’s singles quarterfinals at New Zealand Open. Prannoy stressed on the importance of getting more training at the moment as the shuttler will have a busy calendar ahead of the Olympic qualifications.

“It is really important that we get a bulk of training at this point. I think, I have been able to play well since the last couple of months. New Zealand also, from my side, I felt I was playing really well,” Prannoy explained.
