India’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty reclaimed a spot in the top 10 of the latest badminton rankings after their dream run at the BWF French Open. Despite their quarter-final exits, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal maintained their spot at sixth and ninth respectively.

Last week in Paris, the young Indian pair of Satwik and Chirag put together a brilliant performance en route a first final appearance at a Super 750 level event on the BWF World Tour. The pair had defeated current world champions Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan, before going past two more higher-ranked pairs, before eventually losing out to top seeds Kevin Sujamuljo and Marcus Gideon in the final.

As a result, the duo jumped two places from 11th in the latest rankings to be placed ninth, featuring in the top 10 for the second time in their career. Earlier this year, Satwik and Chirag had created history by becoming the first Indian men’s doubles pair to win a BWF Super 500 tournament in Bangkok. They’d handed a shock-defeat to the then reigning world champions Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen of China 21-19, 18-21, 21-18 in the Thailand Open final to achieve the feat.

In the other categories among Indian shuttlers, there was not much movement. While Sindhu and Nehwal held onto their positions in the top 10, rising star Lakshya Sen moved up a place to No.51, while Shubankar Dey climbed four places to No 38. Kidambi Srikanth held onto his spot in the top 10, Sai Praneeth remained a place below him at No.11, while Sameer Verma and Parupalli Kashyap gained a spot each to be at 17th and 25th respectively.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy fell two places to No.26 in the women’s doubles category. In mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki remained at 28th — remaining the best-ranked Indian pair — while Satwik and Ashwini dropped a place to be ranked 30th.
