Indian teenage shuttler Lakshya Sen beat Victor Svendsen of Denmark in the final of the Belgian International Challenge on Saturday to clinch the Belgian International Challenge title. The 18-year-old from Almora had earlier beaten Denmark’s Kim Bruun in a 48-minute semifinal clash on Friday night.

18-year-old rising Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen secured the Belgian International Challenge title on Saturday after a win over the second seed Victor Svendsen of Denmark. Lakshya won the game in straight sets as he notched up a comfortable 21-14 21-15 win over Svendsen in the title clash that lasted 34 minutes.

Sen has trained at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy and has shown his talent as a badminton player since a very young age, starting with his brilliant year in the junior badminton circuit in 2016. Lakshya took to Twitter to express his happiness after the title win, “Very happy to have won the Belgian open title.... I would like to thank my coaches, support staff and sponsors!,” he wrote.

The 18-year-old from Almora had earlier beaten Denmark’s Kim Bruun 21-18 21-11 in a 48-minute semifinal match on Friday night. The semifinal clash was a close affair initially with Sen and Bruun exchanging leads frequently before Lakshya built on a slender 13-12 lead to slowly move ahead before eventually pocketing the opening game comfortably. Lakshya came out with all cylinders blazing in the second game to create a huge gap which the Dane failed to bridge.
