Mary Kom has set her sights on claiming a historic sixth World Championship title as she revealed that she was working smartly towards her goal. The boxing star had earlier announced that she would skip this year’s Asian Games but hoped to be back for the World Championships in November.

35-year-old Mary has won it all and has stated in an interview with PTI that she continues to be hungry. Mary had recently backed out of this year’s Asian Games in Indonesia due to a shoulder injury after the CWG games in Gold Coast, but the CWG gold medalist remained highly confident in her own abilities as she declared that she has set her sights on another title in at the World Championships.

“One thing I am certain of that if I don’t get any injury and give 100 percent in my training then I definitely I can say that I am going to win the World Championship. If something in between happens then I can’t say. But I am healing well.

“I am training smartly for the World Championship. Six-seven years ago we would train for two-three hours but now it is not required. We are able to do everything in an hour of training. Staying fit is very important for a comeback so I would say one should be clever with the training,” she told PTI sources.

It was often hard for Mary to fulfill the role of a sportsperson and a mother at times and like any other parent, she too had her regrets about missing out on spending time with her children.

“My children saw the CWG and felt very happy. They were able to understand the feeling behind it. They want me to do well but miss that connection with their mother. Unfortunately, I am not able to give them the time but it’s okay I will stay with them through life. My years of boxing will be shorter than the time I spend with them,” she said.
