Vijender Singh has said that his fight for the Commonwealth super middleweight title, which was canceled earlier this month, might be held in September, but the opponent is yet to be decided by the Commonwealth committee. Vijender who is now 4th in the WBO rankings was to fight against Lee Makhram.

Makhram pulled out of the fight due to an injury before his Commonwealth title match in the super middleweight category. Vijender hinted in an interview that he might play this match in September, but the opponent is yet to be decided.

“The match might be in September. The committee is yet to decide the opponent though,” said Vijender at a promotional event.

“The boxers who are not able to take part in the Olympics or the Asian Games can always opt for the pro level and those who feel they can do well at this level should come."

In support of the 400m U-20 world champion, Hima Das, Vijender said that she needs the correct form of encouragement and funding, so as to make sure that she propels in life and wins many medals for the country. Vijender even mentioned how people wrote him off just before the Beijing Olympics, where he won the bronze medal.

“She is a talented athlete and looks very promising to me. Rather than focusing on her achievement, people should focus on her future and make sure that she is funded well. She is from a poor background, but needs to stay focused,” added Singh.

“She has to keep working hard to earn an Olympic medal. I remember how everyone wrote me off as I was the last one to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.”

Vijender, who has been a part of reality shows and acted as well, asserted that boxing is the only field in which he finds pleasure and doesn’t get bored.

“I have tried my hands in various fields, but never really got engrossed. Boxing is something that I love and will never get bored of it,” Vijender said.
