Asian Boxing Championships | Shiva Thapa, Amit Panghal, Sonia Chahal to lead Indian challenge

Amit Panghal, Shiva Thapa and Sonia Chahal are going to lead the Indian challenge at the Asian Boxing Championships to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from today. The 20-member Indian contingent for the 10-day continental event also has the experienced Sarita Devi and Satish Kumar in it.

With the Asian Boxing Championships all set to begin from today, India have sent a strong unit for the event with the likes of some big names including Shiva Thapa, Sarita Devi, Amit Panghal and Sonia Chahal for the prestigious continental event to be played in Thailand’s capital city. Asian Games gold medallist Panghal will represent India for the first time in his new weight category of 52kg in this competition. On the other hand, in the 60kg bracket, Thapa will look forward to continuing his dream run at the event, where he had ended up on the podium in last three editions.

India will also have hopes on other female pugilists like Nikhat Zareen and Nitu in 51kg and 48kg categories while Manisha will battle it out in 54kg. Experienced Seema Poonia will have an upper edge over others in the 81+ kg weight category while Simranjit Kaur (64kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Nupur (75kg) and Pooja Rani (81kg) will hope for a good show in their respective categories in the event which is scheduled to be concluded on April 26.

Among the men, Deepak Singh and Kavinder Singh Bisht, after their recent success in the Makran Cup and GeeBee Tournament respectively, will compete in the 49kg and 56kg categories respectively. Rohit Tokas (64kg), Ashish (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), Brijesh Yadav (81kg), Naman Tanwar (91kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) are the other Indian boxers participating in the event.
