31-year-old boxer Manoj Kumar, who has three Commonwealth Games medals and a bronze medal in the Asian Championships in the 69kg category, has rejoined the national camp in Patiala. This comes after a rift with the Sports Authority of India who were indifferent to Kumar’s injury expenses in Mumbai.

It was immediately after the Asian Games that Kumar had suffered the groin injury and after laying low for a few days, he eventually decided for the surgery giving the Asian Championship in April-May a miss. And now, the pugilist has come back to strength joining the ongoing national camp.

"By the grace of god and the support of my coaches, the Boxing Federation of India and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), I have managed to recover fully and have got the clearance to rejoin the national camp," Manoj, who picked up the injury during last year's Asian Games, said Kumar PTI.

"The Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai took very good care of me and I am grateful to them," he added.

The Haryana boxer, who has also won an Arjuna award, had come to news for his war of words with SAI who were accused of being totally indifferent to the expenses of his treatment. However, all the differences were eventually solved as he got the needed support from SAI as well as the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

The welterweight Olympian boxer would also be seeking a comeback at the World Championships in September, which would be the first qualifying tournament for Tokyo Olympics.
