India’s promising boxing prodigy in the 69kg category, Lovlina Borgohain has revealed that she had to adapt to a more aggressive style of play after the recent change in scoring trends in favour of aggression in boxing. The 21-year-old also revealed her boxing idols - Mohammad Ali and Mike Tyson.

Amateur boxing has evolved over the years with the entertainment quotient coming up with newer demands and the trend has followed the same. And with the developing trend of scoring getting more inclined to aggression, defensive boxers have been forced to build a more attacking play. Lovlina has been no different.

“Now, it is not enough to play in counter-attacks. A boxer is required to be more attacking. So I have now adapted to a more aggressive game so that I can have a good mix of attack and defence,” reported TOI.

The boxer from Assam has been one of the highlights in the second edition of the India Open and with the help of her home support, she sounded confident of defending her welterweight title. However, Lovlina won’t stop there and revealed that she would want to use this international experience ahead of the World Championships in Russia which is a qualifying event for Tokyo Olympics.

“I am fully confident of defending my title this time. I have been competing in the 69kg category for a few years now and I will use all I learnt through training and experience, especially from my losses. I have analysed my defeats with my coaches and worked hard on improving my weaknesses and I look to claim the gold again,” added the World Boxing bronze medalist.

Stating that she only had two boxing idols in her life, Lovlina went to reveal that her childhood dream has been to win a gold medal at the Olympics.

“When it comes to idols, it’s only Mohammad Ali and Mike Tyson. I like Mohammad Ali because of his defensive play using his height as advantage. I love his style of play and think my game is similar to his. And everyone is a Mike Tyson fan.

“Since the day I joined boxing, I have had just one dream. To win a gold medal at the Olympics. And I am working as much as I can towards achieving that dream,” she added.
