Indian woman International master Srija Seshadri has managed to outwit Belgium's IM Anna Zozulia in the ongoing AICF Chess Championship and reach the five-point mark after the end of the ninth round. Seshadri recovered from a loss and a draw in the previous two rounds of the tournament.

After getting off to a great start at the ongoing SBI-AICF Chess Championship in Mumbai earlier this week, International Master Srija Seshadri  (ELO rating 2207) endured a slight slump in form as she lost her seventh round match and drew the eighth game.

But she managed to bounce back to winning ways in the ninth round of the tournament when she beat Belgian IM Anna Zozulia. The Tamil Nadu born player produced an impressive display to defeat a higher ranked Anna (ELO 2314) and grab her fourth win of the competition.

Srija had earlier defeated compatriots WIM Vantika Agrawal (IND, 2279), WIM Aakanksha Hagawane (ELO 2297) and WFM Divya Deshmukh (IND, 2138). She would now be sharing the fourth position with Uzbekistan’s WGM Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova (ELO 2379).

Amongst other news, on the sixth board, Aakansha Hagawane scored an impressive win against compatriot Divya Deshmukh (IND, 2138) to jump into joint third place with WGM Thi Kim Phung Vo of Vietnam (ELO 2376), with 5.5 points each.

Top-ranked IM Munguntuul of Mongolia (ELO 2410) continued her winning run as she beat India’s Rakshitta Ravi (ELO 2067) in the Italian Game in 48 moves for her third consecutive win. The Mongolian is now half a point behind Kazakhstan’s WGM Guliskhan Nakhbayeva (ELO 2323) who continued to occupy the top position with seven points.
