The contest on Monday between Anand and Carlsen continued for 43 moves with the current World Champion registering a win against the Indian. Carlsen will now meet David Navara in the next round in the competition.

“I am happy to have won the game. I hadn’t beaten him much in classical chess much in the last few years. He is still extremely strong and our matches are still very tough. As you saw today, he suffers from lapse of concentration and you can take advantage of that,” Carlsen said after the match, reported TOI.

Anand is in search of a win in the competition as he had started the event with a draw against Czech Grandmaster Navara on Sunday. Although Anand had a dominating run for most part of the opening round, he made a few mistakes against Navara that ensured the game ending in a draw.
