Viswanathan Anand slipped to fourth position in the ongoing Tata Steel chess after he drew with Poland’s Jan Krzysztof Duda in the eleventh round of the tournament. On the other hand, after a win against Samuel Shankland of United States, Vidit Gujarati was leading along with Magnus Carlsen.

After a loss against World Champion Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand had slipped to third position. He has further slipped another position to stand at the fourth position with a total of 6.5 points. He played out a draw against the Polish player Jan Krzysztof Duda with white pieces.

Anand will now have to beat both Ding Liren of China and Vidit Gujrathi, who looks in good form, in order to keep his chances alive in the tournament. Another Indian in the fray, Vidit Gujrathi has been in good form in last few matches and wins against Vladimir Kramnik and Mamedyarov are few examples of his supreme form.

“I had played Mamedyarov thrice in the Tata Steel rapid and blitz tournament just some time back in India and had lost all three, I really wanted to win today and I am glad I played a good game,” said a jubilant Gujrathi in the post-game chat to scroll.in

Moving away from the Indian players, Dutchman Anish Giri and Magnus Carlsen now have a joint lead in the tournament with 7.5 points each. While Giri won against  Samuel Shankland of United States, Carlsen played out a draw against Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan.

Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia is on the third position with seven points as there are two table leaders. The Ian defeated compatriot Vladimir Fedoseev in another decisive game of the day. Anand and Gujrati will have to continue a good showing in order to finish the tournament on a high.
