The Indian men’s chess team thrashed hosts Kazakhstan 3.5-0.5 to stay at the second position with a total of nine points in six rounds at the World Teams Chess Championship. On the other hand, the Indian women’s team lost to China by 1.5-2.5 points in the prestigious event being played in Astana.
The Indian men had an excellent outing on all boards against the hosts as Krishnan Sasikiran, Surya Ganguly, and S P Sethuraman won their ties after B Adhiban was held to a draw by Rinat Jumabayev on the top board. Sasikaran defeated Anuar Ismagambetov while Ganguly got the better of Murtas Kazhgaleyev.
Sethuraman maintained his dominance on the last board to register an easy win against Denis Makhnev to ensure a positive finish for the Indians in the men’s category. Russia is at the topmost position on the points table with 10 points while India and England are at the joint second with nine points each.
