Grandmaster Sahaj Grover manages to retain doubles in Arnold Classic

Topping the rapid field by scoring nine points from 10 rounds and aggregating 8.5 from 10 rounds in the blitz section, Sahaj Grover retained the double in SWVG Arnold Classic rapid and blitz chess tournament. It is organized by Arnold Schwarzenegger and by Kasparov Chess Foundation.

Ahead of the tournament, Grover was a huge favourite and the Grandmaster didn’t disappoint either by winning the title for the second successive year. Last year too, he was adjudged as the overall champion in winning the rapid title and tying for the blitz crown. Consequently, Sahaj received medals and prize money worth 12,000 rands.

The tournament organizer, Hollywood legend, former Governor of California, and a former Mr. Universe, Schwarzenegger was also present during the occasion and played with the local under-8 champion Pranae Govender.

“I started (playing chess) when I was eight with my father, I had to play with him every day. When I went to America, I started playing over there with friends and people at the gym, It was always part of me,” revealed Schwarzenegger, reported Sportstar.

The multi-sport event has been played under the motto “There is something for everyone” and also includes sports like boxing martial arts and bodybuilding.
