The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday gave the go-ahead to the Masters Champions League (MCL) set to be held in Dubai next year. The Twenty20 league, featuring retired cricketers from across the globe was launched last month amidst much hoopla and fanfare.

The league caught attention of the Indian media last month when Virender Sehwag, currently representing Sachin's Blasters in the Cricket All-Stars Series in the United States, was spotted at the launch party, along with former cricketers Brian Lara and Graeme Smith. His presence ignited reports of his retirement from international cricket, which eventually came true.

Viru's fans will now have the chance to yet again witness his brilliance at the MCL next year . According to PTI, ICC has given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the league, although they are yet to release an official statement.

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) had earlier approved the league for an initial 10-year period and the inaugural edition is set to start on January 22, 2016. Six teams will participate in the tournament and a total of 90 players will be auctioned on November 27.

Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium are slated to host the matches in the mega event.
