The second Test match between India and South Africa was officially called off on Wednesday morning with rain playing spoilsport for the last four days.

India’s hopes of going two up in the Test series were dashed on Wednesday with the match being called off for the fourth consecutive day. This is also the first time in the history of Test cricket in India that four days have been completely washed off.

The match had assumed greater significance in the light of it being crowd favorite AB de Villers's 100th Test.

At the end of the play on first day, India was 80 for no loss with Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan at the crease. Having won the toss, Indian captain Virat Kohli had put the Proteas into bat before India bowled them out for 214.

Speaking to the media at the post match conference, Virat Kohli expressed his disappointment at not playing for the last four days. “It was very disappointing. The second and third day’s play being called off was very frustrating as we had a very good first day. Toughest part is to set up a Test match and build it from there on. We were on course to do that, to get control and capitalise on it. But as the weather turned out to be such, that we had no control over next four days,” reported PTI.

With the second match drawn, both teams will now move on to Nagpur, where the third test will be played from November 25th.
