Ishant sustains hamstring injury, doubtful for Gandhi- Mandela series

India Test quick, Ishant Sharma has sustained a hamstring injury during Delhi’s ongoing Ranji Trophy game against Haryana, casting doubts on his availability for the remaining two One-Dayers and the Gandhi- Mandela Test series against South Africa.

The National selection committee is to pick the squad for the final two One-Dayers and the first two Test matches on Monday. It is unclear how serious Ishant’s injury is, although he did not take the field on Saturday. A hamstring injury takes anything between two and six weeks, depending on the extent of the injury.

Ishant , who took 13 wickets during the Test series victory over Sri Lanka in August, was not picked in the squad for the Twenty20 series and the first three ODIs against South Africa.

Sharma was slapped with a one-Test ban after admitting to charges of misconduct during the third and final Test against Sri Lanka that will anyway see him miss the first Test against South Africa starting in Mohali on November 5.
