Virat Kohli has retained his second spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings with David Warner breathing down his neck. Meanwhile, India have climbed up to the third spot in the team rankings with New Zealand dropping points after their 0-3 defeat to Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee series.
AB de Villiers remains at the top of the ODI rankings but Kohli has now closed the gap down to just 13 points at the top. However, the Indian Test skipper is just 2 points ahead of Warner who was leading scorer with 299 runs in the recently concluded 3-match series against New Zealand. Kohli will have a chance to overtake de Villiers when Indian play England in the 3-match series starting next month.
Meanwhile, Martin Guptill and Australia's trio of Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazelwood have all achieved career-high rankings. Rohit Sharma is the only other Indian batsman in the top-10, and he has dropped to No.9. Shikhar Dhawan is 12th while MS Dhoni is 14th.
In the team rankings, New Zealand have dropped three points after their terrible outing Down Under and have now dropped down to the 4th spot. Their woes have pushed India to No.3, while Australia have extended their lead at the top over South Africa to 482 points.
Trent Boult, who was the leading wicket-taker in the series with eight wickets, has retained his No.1 spot. He leads South Africa's Imran Tahir by eight points, with West Indies' Sunil Narine one more point behind in third position. Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan continues to lead the all-rounders rankings.
