Ex-Australian skipper George Bailey, who plays for Big Bash team Hobart Hurricanes, fell victim to a funny run-out under the most unfortunate circumstances in their match yesterday. While attempting a third run, Bailey’s bat got stuck just short of the crease, leaving him and his bat in the air.
In the Big Bash league game against Brisbane Heat, the Hurricanes got off to a decent start, scoring 3 for 60 after seven overs with Bailey and Daniel Christian trying to begin a partnership.
Christian cut a ball through backward point and the duo tried to get an easy three runs from that.
When Heat's Alex Ross fired the ball from the deep, Bailey was just a foot or two away from his batting crease. But as luck had it, Bailey’s bat got in his way just short of the crease, when he tried to ground it. Heat wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson whipped off the bails while Bailey's feet were in the air, to send him packing.
Former England player Kevin Pietersen, who was in the commentary box during the dismissal said on air, “His bat got stuck, his bat got stuck, they’re going upstairs.”
“Oh no, no he’s out, he’s out!”
After the run-out, Hurricanes couldn’t score at that
