The Rising Pune Supergiants unveiled their jersey for the ninth season of the Indian Premier League on Monday at New Delhi in the presence of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and owner Sanjiv Goenka. The team also appointed ex-Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the Assistant Coach of the side.

The Pune-based franchise made their way into the cash-rich league after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for a period of two years last year. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned team picked Indian limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni as their first pick in the draft last year along with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith and Faf du Plessis. The team appointed the former Chennai Super Kings combo of Dhoni and Stephen Fleming as captain and coach respectively for the franchise before adding a plethora of names to their team in the IPL auction on February 5.

At the jersey unveiling ceremony, Dhoni, who led India to the T20 series win against Sri Lanka yesterday, spoke about his new role as the skipper of the Pune franchise.

“I am looking forward to a new experience with the Rising Pune Supergiants. IPL has always been the breeding ground for new exciting talents who have the potential to play a vital part in the future for the Indian Cricket Team. This year we have a very balanced side with the right combination of youth and experience which is essential for any team to succeed,” said Dhoni.

The team also announced the appointment of former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the Assistant Coach of the side.
