15-year-old Pranav Dhanawade pleasantly shocked the world today becoming the first-ever batsman in the history of cricket to score 1,000 runs in a single innings, in any form of the game. The youngster shattered an 116-year-old record to achieve this feat, on Day 2 of the Bhandari Trophy tournament, organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Dhanawade, playing for Smt KC Gandhi School of Kalyan, resumed his innings from an overnight score of 652 and crossed the 1000-run mark by lunch. Previously, the record of highest individual score was held by AEJ Collins of England, who had made 628 not out in 1899, while batting for Clark's House against North Town.

The previous highest score by an Indian batsman was 546, made by another Mumbai cricketer Prithvi Shaw of Rizvi Springfield, who scored those runs in 2013, in the Harris Shield game against St Francis D'Assissi.

Dhanawade's historic innings also propelled his team's score to 1465, which also broke the world record held by Victoria, who made 1107 against New South Wales in 1926.

What was even more staggering, was Dhanawade's strike rate. The 10th standard boy, scored his 1009 runs in just 323 balls, at a strike rate of 312.38. His innings was decked with 59 sixes and 129 boundaries! The bowlers of Arya Gurukul school should ideally pursue a different sport after this hammering.

Dhanawade, who is the son of an auto-driver, is coached by MCA's Mobin Sheikh. The 50-year-old expressed his delight about his prodigy’s memorable achievement, and said, “Dhanawade is with me from the age of six. His feat would give a strong boost to cricket in this area. We have lot of talent in and around Kalyan but lack of proper facilities has hampared it.

“Today (former India captain and MCA Vice President) Dilip Vengsarkar came and promised an academy here if he is provided with the ground and our local MLA promised to provide him wherever he wanted it,” said Sheikh.

“It’s a proper ground for an under 16 game and the tournament is an MCA-recognised tournament. I was very happy with the opposing team, and the way they approached the game”.

Even Sachin Tendulkar took to twitter to praise the young man.
