India A will play in a limited-over quadrangular series against Australia A, South Africa A, and Cricket Australia's National Performance Squad in August, Cricket Australia announced on Wednesday. After the 50 over series, India A will also play Australia A in two unofficial Tests in September.
The first six matches of the series will be played at Townsville, and the remaining six matches and the two finals will be hosted by Mackay. Announcing the series, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Team Performance, Pat Howard, said that the inclusion of India A team in the series will enhance the competition.
"This is an important series for developing and growing the depth of talent in our pathways. India and South Africa are strong competitors with wide-ranging skills to challenge our players and build their experience against high-quality opposition," Howard said, reported PTI.
According to reports, Shreyas Iyer, Unmukt Chand, Mayank Agarwal, Sanju Samson and Naman Ojha are likely to board the flight to Australia, along with Krunal Pandya and Murugan Ashwin, who have had an impressive IPL season.
Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins is also expected to make his comeback from injury during the limited over series.
