After Zimbabwe’s humiliating loss to India in the 2nd ODI on Monday, interim coach Makhaya Nitni has said that he wanted to hang himself after watching his team's performance. Ntini has expressed his disappointment about how the team threw the match away from a position of strength.

"I almost hanged myself. If there was a tomato tree outside I would have hanged myself in that tomato tree,” Ntini was quoted as saying by AFP after India's eight-wicket win at the Harare Sports Club. The former South African pacer was left fuming after his team’s lacklustre performance. "It’s no good. We have experienced players with us who can easily read the game. We were in the perfect position," he said to AFP.

Zimbabwe was struck by disaster as Sean Williams, who was replacing Craig Ervine, injured his finger during warm-ups and could not bat. With only nine wickets in hand, Zimbabwe collapsed for 126. Such a performance lead to protests from the fans, who held banners and whistled early during India’s run chase. One of the placards read, "We cannot support disaster, calamity and quagmire of epic proportions."

Zimbabwean player V Sibanda commented on this, saying “I heard some of the words that came out and they’re obviously not nice. We’re representing our country and they’re as disappointed as we are.”

AFP reported Sibanda as saying “We want them to stand by us when things aren’t going well so we can pull in the same direction, because otherwise we can’t achieve anything”.
