The Indian ODI squad for the New Zealand series announced today has seen Suresh Raina keeping his place, while R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested. The MS Dhoni-led team will play 5 ODIs against New Zealand in India, starting with the first match at Dharamsala on October 16.

Rumours of Yuvraj Singh's return to India's ODI team had abounded in the days leading to today. But, the selection committee announced a 15-man squad today for the 5-match ODI series at home against New Zealand without the charismatic southpaw. However, Suresh Raina, who has been out of the squad since October 2015 and missed the Australia tour and the Zimbabwe tour has made a comeback into the squad. The selectors have also made the bizarre choice of resting the spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja after their exploits in the first two Tests.

Pacer Mohammad Shami, who has also impressed upon his return, has been rested in an apparent bid to keep him injury-free.

The new selection committee, led by former wicketkeeper MSK Prasad, has brought back Hardik Pandya after leaving him out in the Zimbabwe series. Pandya's selection becomes all the more inexplicable after his performance as part of the India A squad that won the quadrangular ODI series in Australia last month. Pandya scalped 5 wickets and scored 47 runs in 7 matches for the India A team in the series.

The squad has been announced for only the first 3 ODIs.

The first ODI of the 5-match series will be played at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala on October 16.
