Former Pakistan captains Javed Miandad and Shahid Afridi brought an end to their ugly feud that errupted after the former accused the latter of fixing matches. Miandad reportedly apologised, saying he made the accusation in the “heat of the moment’.

“Things are said in the heat of the moment and I also said some inappropriate things in the heat of the moment. I take them back,” Miandad said, after he cleared the air with Afridi in Karachi.

Miandad’s statement had the potential of embarrasing Pakistan cricket with a fresh controversy of match-fixing.

Afridi had threatened to take Miandad to court for his false accusation.

“What Javed bhai said caused me and my family pain but I also understand now what I said about him was not warranted and would have hurt him and I say sorry to him for that,” Afridi said on air.

Fast bowling great and former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was instrumental in the two players setting their differences.

“I am so happy they have sorted out things and it is the sensible thing to do. There were people who came on channels and wanted this controversy to go further without realising how much damage it was doing to our cricket image,” Akram said.
