Nitish Rana and Mumbai Indians snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as the home side won their first game of the 2017 IPL by 4 wickets. Rana scored 50 runs off 29 balls and Hardik Pandya’s quickfire 29* helped Mumbai score an astonishing 60 runs in four overs to chase down KKR’s 178.

Here are the player ratings for the match :

Kolkata Knight Riders

Gautam Gambhir - (6/10)

The Delhi batsman started strongly hitting handsome shots all around the ground but was unable to convert the start into a big score that could have added to the team's total. He was caught by McClenaghan for 19 while trying to clear the infield, with a sweep-cum-flick) on a Krunal Pandya delivery.

Chris Lynn - (7/10)

The Aussie carried his confidence from the previous match where he had played a match-winning knock to this game as well as he treated the seamers and spinners alike and scored 32 off 24 balls to give his team a strong and steady start. Lynn faltered when he shuffled across the stumps to counter Bumrah's steaming delivery but was caught plumb in front of the stumps.

Robin Uthappa - (4/10)

The wicketkeeper-batsman came to the crease in the fifth over but failed to utilize the opportunity. The Pandya duo got their first prey in Uthappa. Krunal Pandya pitched the ball up and tempted the Karnataka batsman to hit him but he miscued the shot, only to be caught at deep mid-wicket by the other Pandya, Hardik.

Manish Pandey - (9/10)

He came in the 7th over and stayed till the end to take the Knight Riders to a respectable total. He smashed 5 sixes and as many fours on his way to score 81 runs off 47 balls. Had it not been his timely innings, KKR would have lost the game much earlier.

Yusuf Pathan - (3/10)

The elder Pathan failed to fire and faced 11 balls to score just 6 runs. He lost his wicket while trying to hit a big shot off of a Krunal Pandya delivery. He miscued that big time and was caught at long-off by Hardik Pandya.

Suryakumar Yadav - (6/10)

Despite known for his big-hitting abilities, Yadav failed to inspire much confidence as he could only manage to score 17 runs off 15 balls and became Malinga's first prey. Yadav was unable to understand the slower delivery of Malinga and was caught at long-off by Pollard.

Chris Woakes - (4/10)

Nothing less but fireworks were expected from the all-rounder when he made his way to the crease, but the Englishman was unable to show his skills and became a victim of Malinga's short ball, scoring only  9. In his four overs, he spent 34 runs picking up one wicket.

Sunil Narine - (5/10)

Did a pretty decent job with the ball. The West Indian spent only 22 runs in four overs and also picked up the important wicket of Rohit Sharma - be it luckily. Having said that, he still doesn’t look like the menacing figure that took the league by storm in 2012.

Ankit Rajpoot  - (5/10)

If Ankit can forget the last over he bowled today, he would end up having a good night’s sleep. Coming in as a replacement for Piyush Chawla, Rajpoot showed tremendous control with his variations and picked up three wickets in the process.

Trent Boult - (4/10)

The Kiwi did not have a great day today but was handed the responsibility of bowling the last over of the innings. To be honest, he didn’t bowl poorly and had Rishi Dhawan take the Pandya catch who is to say what would have happened. But definitely need to pull up his socks for the remainder of the tournament.

Kuldeep Yadav - (5/10)

The left-armed leggie was not able to repeat his heroics from the Gujarat game tonight. He picked up a wicket but KKR will definitely expect a better return than 8.75 runs an over.

Mumbai Indians

Parthiv Patel - (6/10)

Parthiv Patel was sent out to see off the new ball that was swinging in every direction. Although the wicketkeeper made sure he did his job, he struggled to impose himself in the powerplay overs.

Jos Buttler - (6/10)

Like his partner, he was sent early to give Mumbai a good start and he did just that scoring 28 off 22 balls. He had just started accelerating when he was given LBW off a Rajpoot delivery but the Englishman can consider himself to be unlucky as the review suggested that the ball was missing the stumps.

Rohit Sharma - (4/10)

For a second game running, the Mumbai skipper failed to have any impact on the game. However, this time Rohit was unfortunate to be given out LBW when he had clearly edged the ball onto his pads.

Nitish Rana - (9/10)

What a performance by the 23-year-old who made a game out of it when it appeared that Kolkata had wrapped up the game. His 50 not only helped the team at a position of winning but also provided Hardik Pandya the required confidence of playing the match-winning shots.

Krunal Pandya - (8/10)

Pandya Sr. was exceptional with the ball, picking up the wickets of Gambhir, Uthappa, and Pathan that put Mumbai in the driving seat in the first innings. With the bat, he, too, was a victim of a bad umpiring call.

Kieron Pollard - (4/10)

Needing 82 runs of eight over, all eyes were on Pollard to stand up and deliver but after getting a good start,  the Trinidad all-rounder found it difficult to strike the ball well and threw his wicket away in frustration.

Hardik Pandya - (9/10)

What a finish by the youngster! With Pollard, and later Rana, back in the dugout, it was down to the Baroda man to secure the win for his team and he did it and how. While there was an element of luck involved in his short-but-bold innings, but as the saying goes, "Fortune favours the brave."

Harbhajan Singh - (6/10)

After being dropped for tactical reasons for the first match of the season, Harbhajan made a comeback in the playing XI today and instantly, made his presence felt. The Turbanator zipped through the middle overs and although he didn't pick up any wickets today, with an economy of 6.75 played his part well.

Mitchell McClenaghan - (2/10)

The Kiwi pacer had a forgettable day at the office as he ended up with figures of 1/51 in his four overs. He was lucky to be smashed for just 23 runs in the last over having conceded 18 off the first two balls.

Lasith Malinga - (5/10)

On his return to the Mumbai team, the Sri Lankan struggled to have the impact that is expected from him. He was smashed for a boundary in every one of his overs - barring one where he picked up the wicket of Surya Kumar Yadav.

Jasprit Bumrah - (6/10)

The Indian ace was smashed for 15 runs off his first over but came back strong conceding just 2 runs in his second and getting the wicket of the dangerous Chris Lynn. He, uncharacteristically, struggled to find his length at the death-over and ended up contributing 39 runs to the KKR score.
