Gautam Gambhir has claimed that before he finishes his career, he would want to return to represent Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League again. The current Kolkata Knight Riders' captain started his IPL career with Delhi way back in 2008 but ended up moving to KKR in 2011.
In the very first season of the IPL, Gambhir finished as the second highest run scorer in the league guiding his team to the semi-finals. The next season, under his leadership, Delhi finished at top of the table but were yet again thwarted at the semi-final stage. Before leaving for KKR in 2011, Gambhir had amassed 1097 runs for the Daredevils and now he has said that he would like to end his career in the city of his birth.
"I think my heart is still with Delhi. I played for three years for Delhi (Daredevils). Somewhere, deep within my heart, I'd love to finish with Delhi," Gautam Gambhir was quoted saying by the Hindustan Times.
After moving to the Bengal team, the Delhiite has scored 2537 runs in six seasons and has led the team to two IPL titles. However, when asked who he would root for in the current season, Gambhir came up with a very diplomatic answer.
"Though I am the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and would want them to win it for the third time, but since I'm a Delhi boy too, I obviously want Delhi Daredevils to do well, as well," Gambhir said.
