Glenn Maxwell was visibly irritated when asked about his difficulties in playing the spinners and called it as a s*** question as he had been hitting legspinners for sixes in the previous matches. The Punjab skipper also rued missing on the few opportunities that had come the team’s way.

Delhi Daredevils put away Kings XI Punjab with surgical precision as they registered their second consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League 2017. On a pitch that became sluggish as the game progressed, Delhi scored 188 for 6 in 20 overs which eventually proved to be a big total for the visitors at the end. Skipper Maxwell perished to the legspin of Amit Mishra for a duck.Frustrated by the defeat, an irate Maxwell snapped when a reporter asked him if he was having trouble countering the legspin, and said, “That’s a shocking question,” he said. “Do you understand (that) in the last three games I’ve hit legspinners for six repeatedly? S*** question!”

Maxwell termed the defeat a collective failure on the part of his team and believed had the team latched onto those chances came on their way, the result would have been different.

"The weaknesses tonight were basically everything. Batting, bowling, fielding; everything was pretty average. Especially when Delhi chose to bat first, we had to make sure we take every opportunity. We let guys get away and we let the batters play easy shots and get off the marks and get into their innings where they didn't let us comeback. They made us play which, I suppose, is a little bit frustrating because probably one of the advantage is making the opposition make the first mistake.

“I thought we let the opportunities slip the whole way through the game. If you drop the first ball of the game, that probably sets the tone. I think we dropped Corey Anderson in his single figures; they weren’t straightforward chances but in T20 cricket the half-chances need to be taken. You need to make the most of those opportunities, they don’t come pretty often, especially when they win the tosses.”

The Punjab skipper even indicated that the team management could change strategy and give uncapped players a chance if the current trend continued.

“We did that in the first couple of games (but) unfortunately tonight, when we started to build a little pressure to get a wicket, there would be a legside boundary or something off the pads or a wide ball or something else that would just completely upset the way we are trying to go. It is a little bit frustrating because we know we have got the skills there and the guys have shown they are good enough to play, they have dominated at different times but at the moment, it is just not happening," he added.

“It is not about the quality of our bowling, it is about bad execution on the day. Last two games we haven’t executed our plans, it’s as simple as that. It is probably going to get to the point where I am going to start picking uncapped players, who are willing to execute and back their plans. At the moment, that is not happening.”
