IPL 2017 | Rising Pune Supergiant vs Kolkata Knight Riders - Player Ratings

KKR took the Pune side by storm on their home turf when they made an 182-run chase look like a walk in the park. The Kolkata side achieved the winning feat riding on brilliant performances by skipper Gambhir and wicketkeeper Uthappa stealing the spotlight away from Steve Smith’s brilliant innings.

Here are the player ratings for the game

Rising Pune Supergiant

Ajinkya Rahane - (7/10)

Rahane seems to have grown fond of the opening spot. He took his time to settle his eye in the game but paced up his innings after the loss of his opening partner at 65. Rahane would be disappointed with himself as he was 4 runs short of the half-century landmark.

Rahul Tripathi - (7/10)

The youngster seems to be another IPL revelation and continued his impressive run with the bat. He started nervously but gradually gained confidence and gave his side the perfect start yet again. He complimented Rahane beautifully by striking the ball and taking all the pressure off him. Sadly, he was dismissed at 38 and he needs to start converting these 30's to the much-deserved half-centuries.

Steven Smith - (8/10)

The skipper once again stepped up and took the responsibility of getting his side to a more than competitive total of 182. He paced his innings to perfection as he rotated the strike with ones and twos and unleashed himself on the KKR bowlers towards the end. He scored an unbeaten 51.

Faf du Plessis - (4/10)

The South African was called in to replace the injured Ben Stokes but failed to impact the match as much as the English all-rounder. He just made up the numbers for the Pune side. A wasted opportunity.

MS Dhoni - (6/10)

Dhoni learnt a lesson from his last innings and did not play the waiting game when he came out today. He straightaway went after the bowlers and smacked them mercilessly to all corners of the ground. He scored 17 runs out of his 23 in the form of boundaries but would be disappointed with himself because he looked all set to finish yet another innings for his side but fell to the chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav.

Manoj Tiwary - (3/10)

Manoj Tiwary played a scintillating 13 ball 22-run cameo in the last match against Mumbai Indians and was expected to do the same once again today. Tiwary, however, failed miserably when he failed to pick up a Kuldeep Yadav googly and was dismissed at 1.

Daniel Christian - (7/10)

The Aussie all-rounder proved his might with the bat today as he scored an explosive 6-ball 16. Christian did a decent job with the ball too and gave away runs at an economy of 7.75 runs when the rest of his side were leaking runs. Unfortunately, Sundar dropped Gambhir at 32 off his bowling which could have shifted the momentum in the home side’s favour. He managed to bag the wicket of Gambhir in the end but it came too late. He finished with decent figures of 31-1 from his spell of 4 overs.

Washington Sundar - (4/10)

The 17-year old started strongly giving away just 3 runs in his first over and his tight bowling also produced the Narine run-out but the youngster still has a long way to go. He leaked too many runs and crumbled under pressure when he dropped Gambhir at 32 and eventually paved the way for a KKR victory. He finished with figures of 32-0 from his spell of 3 overs.

Shardul Thakur - (3/10)

The youngster’s poor performance continues in the tournament as he neither bowled economically nor got his side the breakthroughs that could have shifted the momentum of the game in their favour. It would be hard for him to maintain a spot in the team and he needs to step up his game if he wants to continue playing for the franchise. He bowled 3.1 overs and gave away 31 runs.

Imran Tahir - (4/10)

Tahir's impressive run took a hit today when he was smashed around all corners of the MCA stadium by the Gambhir-Uthappa duo. He was unlucky when Unadkat dropped Uthappa off his delivery which could have turned the tables on the away side. He wasn’t able to work his magic today and finished with below par figures of 48-0 from his quota of 4 overs.

Jaydev Unadkat - (4/10)

The saviour of Pune in the last match failed to recreate the tight last over he bowled in the match against Mumbai Indians. Although he managed to pick up the wicket of the dazzling performer of the day, Robin Uthappa, it was too little too late. He had earlier dropped Uthappa at the paltry score of 12 and that ultimately sealed the feat of the match. He ended with figures of 26-1 from his spell of four overs which he definitely would want to forget.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Gautam Gambhir - (9/10)

Gambhir continues his scintillating form with the bat. He anchored the KKR innings at the start and rotated the strike perfectly to keep the match in favour of his side. He knit a mammoth 158-run partnership with Uthappa and led his side to a landslide win. Earlier in the day, he made some bold decisions that paid off and helped restrict the Pune side to 182. A brilliant all-around performance from the KKR skipper, he surely deserves a standing ovation.

Sunil Narine - (6/10)

Narine started his day with the ball in his hand but proved quite costly. Although he managed to dismiss the well-settled Ajinkya Rahane at 46, he leaked too many runs and ended his quota of 4 overs with figures of 34-1. He opened with the bat as usual dealing in boundaries and with no regard for the bowlers but his innings was cut short as he was unable to fetch a quick single and was run out at 16.

Robin Uthappa - (9.5/10)

 © BCCI

Uthappa seemed to have wagered in a bet on how fast he could end the match before he came in to bat. He came out all guns blazing against the Pune bowlers and put on a great show for the Pune crowd. He led his side to a convincing 7-wicket victory with his explosive 47-ball 87-run innings. Earlier in the day, he showcased his superhuman reflexes when he stumped three Pune batsmen and helped the bowlers restrict the home side to 182.

Darren Bravo - (6/10)

The West Indian made his debut in this season's IPL today and what better way to start than scoring the winning runs for his side. He might have enjoyed seeing his teammates thrash the opposition but would have definitely missed batting.

Manish Pandey - (6/10)

Uthappa's blitzkrieg innings did not allow Manish Pandey to show off his batting skills. He would have missed being in action but that feeling would have been overpowered by the brilliant victory for his side.

Yusuf Pathan - (5/10)

Pathan just made up numbers for his side today but would surely be itching to go out and bat in the next game. He botched up two catches during his side’s fielding, but thankfully that did not come back to bite them.

Colin de Grandhomme - (4/10)

The Kiwi did a decent job of bowling two tight overs and gave away just 14 runs. He definitely missed out on the wickets and would try to increase his strikes.

Chris Woakes - (3/10)

The England quickie had a terrible outing with the ball today as he leaked runs at the rate of 12.67 per over. Gambhir called curtains for Woakes after he gave away 18 runs off his 3rd over. He finished with figures of 38-0 from his 3 overs.

Piyush Chawla - (6/10)

The leg-spinner was included in the side in place of Suryakumar Yadav and got the first breakthrough for his side when he dismissed the in-form Rahul Tripathi at 38 in his first over and it looked like Chawla would do wonders for his team today. Unfortunately, it didn't work out as expected as Chawla gave away 33 overs in his last 3 overs to finish with some not-so impressive figures of 36-1.

Kuldeep Yadav - (7/10)

The chinaman bowler left his imprints all over the match when he restricted the RPS side to 182 who at one stage looked to be cruising towards the 200-mark. He raised eyebrows when the captain brought him on to bowl the 18th over but repaid his skipper's faith by sending MS Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary packing and gave away just 5 runs. He was the most economical KKR bowler and finished with figures of 31-2 from his quota of 4 overs.

Umesh Yadav - (4/10)

The Indian pacer was very expensive today and was thrashed by the RPS batsmen. He lacked the wicket-taking rhythm today and ended his spell of 3 overs with figures of 28-1.
