The nail-biting competition came to an end with Mumbai Indians winning the game in the super-over with Bumrah winning the hearts of the MI fans with some superb bowling. Earlier Parthiv Patel set up the perfect platform for a Mumbai win but the other batsmen failed to chase the modest total of 153.

Gujarat Lions

Aaron Finch - (2/10)

After his swashbuckling innings in his previous match, Gujarat fans would have expected him to stay and help his side reach a respectable total but he never opened his account and was dismissed for a duck. The Aussie got another opportunity to redeem himself when he came to bat in the super over but failed miserably scoring just 2 runs.

Brendon McCullum - (3/10)

BMac rotated the strike early in the game and let the youngster Kishan take the responsibility of the big hits. When Malinga offered him an opportunity in the second over he welcomed it with open arms and sent the ball to the boundary but greed got the better of him and he tried to clobber the following delivery as well. He missed and Malinga’s delivery sent his off-stump tumbling. The Kiwi was disappointing in the super over as well where he wasted 2 deliveries without opening his account.

Suresh Raina - (6/10)

The in-form skipper lasted just 3 deliveries when he chipped a Bumrah delivery into the air which was caught by Pollard bringing the captain's contribution with the bat to an end. Raina tried to redeem himself with the ball but failed to restrict the Mumbai side who kept scoring at a comfortable pace. He ended his day with figures of 0/28 from his 4 overs.

Ishan Kishan - (8/10)

The young lad started the match by dictating terms when he took the game to the bowlers and thrashed the best of them but his innings slowed down when the top-order of the Gujarat side tumbled. He tried to anchor the innings but was outfoxed by an experienced Harbhajan Singh who dismissed him at 48 denying him a well-deserved half-century.

Ravindra Jadeja - (6/10)

Jadeja started off well and played each delivery according to its merit but faltered when he tried to slog a Krunal Pandya delivery for maximum which brought an end to his day with the bat at 28. Jadeja’s main contribution was with his fielding efforts that produced two run outs and turned the match on its head, one of which took the match to the super over.

Dinesh Karthik - (3/10)

The wicketkeeper took his time to set his eye in the game and was expected to play a mature innings after the dismissal of his skipper but he seemed to be in a hurry when he danced down the pitch to Krunal Pandya and was left red-faced when Patel dislodged the bails.

James Faulkner - (6/10)

The Australian side might be reconsidering including Faulkner in their Champions Trophy squad after his valiant knock of 21 and his great bowling performance(2/34) that helped his side restrict the opposition and force a super over. Even in the super over after being dispatched for 11 runs off the first three balls, he recovered well to claim two wickets in a row to set his side an achievable target.

Andrew Tye - (6/10)

The Aussie paceman showed off his skills with the bat today when he played a 12-ball 25 run cameo and gave his side the necessary boost towards the end and helped them post a fighting total of 153. He managed to bowl just one over after which he had to be stretchered off following a shoulder injury.

Irfan Pathan - (5/10)

Pathan's return with the bat was quite short as he miscued the second delivery he faced to the deep mid-wicket and started his long walk back to the dressing room. Pathan’s day could have been as dreadful with the ball as with the bat but he bowled a tight final over to restrict the Mumbai side to 153 forcing a superover. He finished with figures of 0/26 and also contributed in the game with one of the game changing run outs.

Basil Thampi - (8/10)

Thampi was expensive, to begin with, but staged a terrific comeback in the following overs giving away just 16 runs in his following 3 overs. He bowled the crucial penultimate over and took 2 wickets which shifted the momentum of the game in his side’s favour.

Ankit Soni - (7/10)

The legbreak bowler was at his economical best as he restricted the Mumbai batsmen by bowling his variations and gave his side the slightest of chances of winning the game. He bagged the wicket of Nitish Rana who was well settled and would have carried his side towards victory if he would have been allowed to stay at the crease.

Mumbai Indians

Parthiv Patel - (8/10)

Patel started his proceedings with a boundary and never looked back. He clobbered the bowlers to every corner of the ground and scored at a massive rate of 159. He rotated the strike in the middle overs and scored an excellent 70 to help his side dominate the game.

Jos Buttler - (5/10)

The Englishman looked in great touch when he smacked Thampi for two boundaries in the first over and looked to continue his run scoring streak but Buttler yet again fell victim to a bad call and this time it was Parthiv Patel who cost him his wicket at 9.

Nitish Rana - (5/10)

After two failures Rana started his innings cautiously and left all the big hitting to Parthiv Patel. He rotated the strike well and paced his innings in accordance with the chase but he was unlucky today as he was given leg before wicket after the ball had flicked his glove

Rohit Sharma - (3/10)

The MI skipper’s poor run with the bat continues as he was unable to stand his ground in a comfortable situation and ended up flicking a Faulkner delivery to Karthik at 5.

Krunal Pandya - (8/10)

Krunal was back in the team after he missed the match against RPS and made his presence felt by his disciplined bowling which kept the Gujarat batsmen in check and the building pressure fetched him wickets. He finished his quota of 4 overs with figures of 3/14. Later in the day he showed his nerves of steel when he made sure his side did not lose the match by scoring 29 runs.

Kieron Pollard - (5/10)

The West Indian had the responsibility to take his side over the finish line after the departure of Rohit Sharma and he seemed to be doing just that as he took to singles to get the job done but Pollard couldn’t control himself after hitting Thampi for a boundary and tried to hit him for a maximum but failed which brought down the curtains on his innings. Or so we thought but the West Indian came out to bat in the superover and smacked 10 runs off 2 balls to set a competitive target of 12 runs for the home side to beat.

Hardik Pandya - (4/10)

He did not get a chance to bowl today but had the chance of hitting the winning runs for his side when he came out to bat with his side needing 27 runs off 22 balls but he failed to do so and fell to a Thampi delivery at 4.

Harbhajan Singh - (7/10)

The turbanator was thrashed by Ishan Kishan hit him for two boundaries in his first over but that did not perturb the offie and he continued bowling the tossed up deliveries which fetched him the wicket of Ishan. He bowled economically and finished his spell of 4 overs with figures of 1/23.

Mitchell McClenaghan - (3/10)

The Kiwi was very ineffective today and leaked plenty of runs which saw his side miss the opportunity of restricting the home side to a below par score. He bowled with an economy of 12.50 and ended his day with figures of 0/50 from his 4 overs. He would surely want to improve on that terrible economy rate and see his name amongst the wickettakers.

Lasith Malinga - (8/10)

Malinga may not have been at his economic best today but surely did the damage when he sent the in-form Aaron Finch and the dangerous McCullum back to the pavilion. His variations surely came in handy as he converted his not-so decent start into decent figures of 2/33 from his 4 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah - (9/10)

Bumrah started strongly giving away just one run and dismissing Raina in his first over. He managed to keep the batsmen quiet with his bowling until his last over where he went for 15 runs because of the two illegal deliveries he bowled but he managed to turn that over in his team's favour by dismissing the set duo of Tye and Faulkner on the last 2 balls. He ended his day with figures of 2/32. Bumrah put his death bowling skills on display in the superover where he allowed the Gujarat batsmen to score only 6 runs.
