India's injury-prone Test opener Murali Vijay has admitted that he is not going to make a comeback to the national side anytime soon because of his prolonged wrist injury. The Tamil Nadu opener sought more time for recovering and has not been a part of the ongoing Sri Lanka Test series as well.
The right-hander has been one of India's most consistent scorers for the Indian team in recent times, but injuries have proved detrimental to him. He has enjoyed a purple patch in white flannels in the long home season and was India's one of the most reliable players in the format. But since the end of the home series against Australia, Vijay had only featured in a TNCA first division league match last month, when his injury resurfaced which ruled him out of the Sri Lanka Test series. Now, Vijay admitted that he will have to wait for a longer period before making a comeback to the team again.
Speaking to the Times of India, Vijay said, “It's an absolute pleasure to get back into action”
He has not yet fully recovered from the injury and is trying to use the TNPL platform to regain his fitness.
"To be honest, I don't feel 100% yet, but mentally I'm up there. Hopefully, I can start from the TNPL and build from there on. Once I am fully fit, I will be informing the BCCI," he further added.
