Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi admitted that hewas thrilled as the ICC decided to support cricket in Pakistan again, with the World XI all set to play three T20 internationals on September 12, 13 and 15 in Lahore. However, Afridi wished to see some Indian players in the squad as well.

Afridi has supported the initiative taken by ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring back international cricket to Pakistani soil. The World XI matches are scheduled to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on September 12, 13 and 15.

He is nevertheless disappointed with the absence of Indian players in the World XI squad and tweeted that he wished there were some Indian players in the team too.

Since the terror attack in the year 2009 in Pakistan on the Sri Lankan cricket bus, no cricket has been played on home soil. Only two teams, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan, toured Pakistan to participate in the bilateral series earlier. Sri Lanka is going to play a T20 series in Pakistan in November after World XI. West Indies is also interested in a T20 series.

This time, Pakistan is getting good reviews and PCB has ensured that every player is given Presidential level security.

“I am delighted that Pakistan will be hosting a high-profile series, which features several top international cricketers from a number of ICC Members. This tour is not only important for cricket in Pakistan but also for international cricket since it opens the possibility of other teams, media and sponsors visiting Pakistan for bilateral series,” said Giles Clarke, the former ECB chief who has played a key role in setting up the World XI tour.

World XI squad:Faf du Plessis (South Africa, captain), Hashim Amla (SA), George Bailey (Australia), Paul Collingwood (England), Ben Cutting (Aus), Grant Elliott (New Zealand), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh), David Miller (SA), Tim Paine (Aus, WK), Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka), Darren Sammy (West Indies), Samuel Badree (WI), Morne Morkel (SA), Imran Tahir (SA)
