This rare incident took place in the 25th over of the game when Axar Patel delivered a ball to Chandimal to which the latter played towards the midwicket region. KL Rahul got hold of the ball easily and threw towards keeper’s end. In that moment Chandimal was yards away from his crease, but Dhoni failed to collect the ball cleanly as he touched the stumps only with his gloves, which resulted in a lifeline to the Sri Lankan opener who got enough time to come back.
At the end of the 25 overs, Sri Lanka scored 97 runs with the loss of two wickets. But in the next over, Hardik Pandya ensured that Chandimal didn't damage Indian team anymore as he sent him back to the dressing room.
