As per a report in Bangalore Mirror, Ashish Nehra has signed up as a mentor with the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for the upcoming edition of the IPL. The Delhi player recently retired from the international cricket after playing his last match in the Delhi T20I against New Zealand.

While announcing his retirement from theĀ international circuit, Nehra had stated that he is not going to play in the IPL but as per the report, he is ready to play a role of the mentor for the Bangalore based franchise.Ā

It is learned that Virat Kohli played an important role in this development. In fact, the appointment has been done after the Indian skipperā€™s recommendation according to the report. Nehra will have a bigger role to play in the team as Bharat Arun joined the Indian Team and Allan Donald had quit the franchise and currently the team is without a bowling coach. So, apart from mentoring the players, Nehra will also work as a bowling coach.Ā

Reportedly, Nehra has shared the news with his close friends and family and there is some time before it will be made official.Ā

Nehra played 17 Tests and 120 ODI for India where he claimed 44 and 157 wickets respectively. In the shortest format of the game, the 38-year-old played 27 T20I for India in which he grabbed 34 wickets. The IPL is not new for the left-handed pacer as he featured in 88 games where he got 105 wickets including four-wicket haul which he claimed in 2015 edition. His experience will definitely come handy for the Kohli-led team which ended up at the bottom of the table in 2017.
