Mohammed Kaif believes that MS Dhoni could have continued playing all three formats owing to his natural ability to strike the ball. Former India batsman Kaif was the opposition captain in the Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-overs match in which Dhoni slammed a 107-ball 129.

Dhoni's first List-A century for Jharkhand- his 17th overall - helped them beat first-timer Chhattisgarh by 78 runs at the Eden Gardens. Jharkhand were reeling at 57 for 6 before Dhoni turned it around.

"He has natural abilities which you saw today. I believe he is still good enough for all formats of the game. He is still hitting the ball hard,” Kaif told PTI. "I have been watching Dhoni from his debut match and always felt you cannot become a 'Dhoni' just by practice."

Dhoni lifted his team to 243 for 9 with a 151-run stand with Shahbaz Nadeem (30). Chhattisgarh were bowled out for 165.

"We would have bundled them for 120 if Dhoni was not there," Kaif said.

Dhoni retired from Test cricket in 2014 after playing 90 matches.
