Indian Opener Shikhar Dhawan has checked into a private hospital after reaching Kolkata for the third One-day international of the series against England at the Eden Gardens. English opener Alex Hales has also suffered a finger injury during the Cuttack ODI and will not play the next game.

Shikhar Dhawan failed to get going in the first two matches of the ongoing England series and got out early both times playing some needless shots. Injury concerns have also now added to his state of woes as he has reportedly been admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals in Kolkata, just two days ahead of the third one-day game at the Eden Gardens.

"We cannot confirm the extent of his injury or whether it is just a routine check-up right now. But he was here," a hospital official said, as reported by IANS.

Dhawan was previously injured in the New Zealand ODI series as well, opening a spot for Ajinkya Rahane to open the batting with Rohit Sharma, who is now not playing against England due to injury.

In the New Zealand series, Rahane couldn’t convert his starts to big ones and managed to garner only 143 runs from five matches. In the second warm-up match against England, Rahane, though, played the captaincy innings and scored 91 runs for India A side at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

If Dhawan won’t play the inconsequential rubber on Sunday, Rahane might get a look-in with the other opener KL Rahul who is also struggling to score runs in this series.

England have also not been free from injury concerns as their opening batsman Alex Hales has acquired a finger injury during the second ODI in Cuttack. Hales will have an X-ray in Kolkata to determine the extent of his injury.

Hales has not enjoyed the best of series so far, having been dismissed scoring just nine and 14 respectively. England may call Sam Billings or Jonny Bairstow to replace Alex Hales for the third match.
