Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with his 60-run knock against West Indies in the fourth ODI and became only the 8th Indian batsman to score four half-centuries on the trot. However, the 29-year old's innings went in vain as India lost the match by a margin of 11-runs after failing to chase 190.
Ajinkya Rahane has been in impeccable form since his return to the ODI format for the Indian team. The 29-year old was brought into the team to rest the in-form Rohit Sharma and responded tremendously well with scores of 62, 103, 72 and 60 in the four ODIs that have been played so far.
Rahane's latest fifty resulted in the Mumbai batsman joining the elite club comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin, Suresh Raina, Sourav Ganguly and Navjot Singh Sidhu who have all scored four consecutive half-centuries.
Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar jointly hold the record of scoring five consecutive fifties with Kohli achieving the feat twice.
Rahane also became only the third Indian opener to score four consecutive fifties after Tendulkar and Manoj Prabhakar and also joined the club of Indian batsmen to go past the fifty runs mark in a bilateral ODI series that include Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.
The Mumbai batsman became the 7th player to score four fifty-plus scores in West Indies and only the third away player to do so while he displaced Rohit Sharma to lead the tally of most runs by an Indian on West Indies with 297 runs so far in series as opposed to Rohit's 257.
