While the entire cricketing world was enjoying Bangladesh destroying New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, Rashid Khan was creating history for himself across the Atlantic Ocean. The leggie decimated the West Indies batting line-up, claiming seven wickets in a 63-run win for Afghanistan.

Chasing a target of 213, West Indies were looking fairly comfortable with 68 runs on the board in 22 overs with Shai Hope playing at 34. However, that is when Afghanistan unleashed their biggest weapon in the shape of leg-spinner Rashid Khan. The teenager started off by dismissing Jason Mohammed on the very first ball of his spell.

On the very next ball, Roston Chase was caught plumb in front of his stumps as the hosts succumbed to 69/4 at the end of the over. In the next over, West Indies didn’t fare any better as Hope and Jason Holder were dismissed on consecutive deliveries.

His next over was his worst of the day as he conceded FOUR runs but made up for it in the next one by trapping Ashley Nurse in front of his stumps to complete a fifer for the day.

Rashid was reintroduced with his side needing two wickets to win. Alzarri Joseph and Miguel Cummins stood no chance. The Afghan wrapped up the West Indian innings for 149/10 finishing with astonishing figures of 7/18 to hand his team a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
