Mahendra Singh Dhoni believes that he is certainly capable of playing beyond the 2019 world cup if he can maintain his current fitness levels and remains injury free. But, he has also acknowledged that a lot can change in two years time, especially with the schedule of the Indian cricket team.

Fresh off the back of leading Jharkhand team to the semifinals of the Vijay Hazare trophy and leading from the front with his bat, Dhoni spoke on certain facets of the game at an event in Delhi. Asked about how long he sees himself playing for the country, Dhoni said that things are unpredictable as one injury is all it takes to retire from the game.

On being asked the certainty of playing in the next world cup, Dhoni said that we’re still in 2017 and anything can happen over the next two years, particularly given the schedule of the Indian team.

Dhoni said, “There’s is nothing called 100 per cent. The reason being, two years is a long time. A lot can change in two years, especially seeing India Cricket Team’s schedule, it is a very tough schedule. Uskebaadaapthode vintage car ban jate hai ( After that you become a Vintage car). A lot of caring is needed.”

Having said this, Dhoni also mentioned that if injuries don’t hold him back he will certainly play the next world cup and even beyond that if things stay as they are right now.

Dhoni said, “Looking at everything how it is going through, definitely. But as I said, a lot can happen in two years. Yes, the way I am today, I can easily go beyond the 2019 World Cup.”

From a personal point of view, Dhoni’s recent performances have shown that he still has a lot to offer to the Indian cricket and this certainly comes at a good time with the Champions Trophy beginning in June in England. Dhoni is likely to have a key role to play in India's quest to retain their trophy.
