Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an inspired spell on day 3 of the final Test against Australia, and have now revealed that the pair was motivated by the fact that it was the last game of the long home Test season and they were looking to settle scores with a few of their counterparts.

Umesh and Bhuvneshwar plotted the beginning of the Australian downfall with a fine display of pace bowling and after Bhuvneshwar claimed the all-important wicket of Steve Smith, the two discussed their bowling performance in a video on bcci.tv. You can watch the video here:

Umesh was looking to return the favor to the Australian pace bowlers, particularly Pat Cummins, and said, “The way their pacers were bowling bouncers, especially Pat Cummins, the plan in the second innings was to bowl as many bouncers as possible. We had to win the match and this being the last Test of the season, I felt that we had to give some effort.”

Umesh bowled a few bouncers during his spell. “When I was batting, I received two-three bouncers. After going back (to the dressing room), I decided that I would show them I can bowl bouncers too. At the same time, I had to make sure that I kept control while being aggressive,” he said.

Bhuvneshwar, on the other hand, revealed that he bowled a bouncer early in the Australian innings to David Warner as retribution for a taunt that the Aussie southpaw made during the Indian innings. “When I had gone to bat, Pat Cummins was bowling. Warner was asking me if he was bowling too fast, so when I served him the bouncer, I asked him if this was too fast,” Bhuvneshwar said.

Although the performance of the Indian speedsters may be a result of being provoked, they certainly did the right thing by responding with top quality bowling.
