Ben Stokes is likely to miss the elimination rounds of the IPL if Rising Pune Supergiants manage to book a place in the playoffs. The Englishman has to leave the franchise on accounts of fulfilling his international commitments when England host South Africa in a bilateral series at home.

Rising Pune Supergiants are currently 3rd in the IPL standings and will most likely feature in the playoffs of the tournament. However, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Andrew Strauss has issued strict instructions for the players to attend the training camp before the South Africa series.

The England team is all set to take on South Africa in a 3-match ODI series that commences on the 24th of May. However, the English team will also compete against their South African counterparts in two warm-up matches scheduled to be played on May 19 and May 21.

The South African contingent has already departed from the IPL as this series is seen as a means to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament. Stokes' England teammate Jos Buttler has also departed home which was confirmed by his Mumbai Indians teammate Mitchell McClenaghan.Ā

"Buttler won't be with us for the play-offs but he has a great season for us," said McClenaghan said yesterday.

The English team also features Chris Woakes, who is having a terrific run with his side Kolkata Knight Riders, in the lineup against South Africa. The English pacer has scalped 17 wickets for the Kolkata-basedĀ franchise but will be leaving his team on May 14.

Stokes justified his mighty price tag of 14.5 crores this season as he scored 283 runs for the RPS side and struck 10 times this season to bring his side within touching distance of the knockout stages. With Stokes' departure, the RPS lineup would miss the firepower that the Englishman brought to the middle order and also a void will be created in the bowling lineup that would be hard to make up for.
