Richard Levi suffers a scary head injury during a match

South African batsman Richard Levi suffered a nasty blow to the head while batting for Northamptonshire in a match against Worcestershire on Sunday in the Division Two County Championship. The 29-year-old was taken to the hospital for examination and later discharged with diagnosis of a concussion.
The Sunday County game between Northamptonshire and Worcestershire took a scary turn when South African batsman Richard Levi was struck on the head by a bouncer from Josh Tongue before falling to the ground.
The South African received a lengthy treatment on the field and was later taken to the hospital in an ambulance as an early lunch was called in the match. The 29-year-old holds the record for scoring the fastest ever T20I century(45 balls) for South Africa. He was later discharged with the diagnosis of a mild concussion.
However, Levi will have to be benched for six days and be monitored according to the England Cricket Board's concussion protocols which were modified due to the death of Australian Phillip Huges after a similar incident.
Levi was on 28 when he had to be taken off the field as his side went on to suffer an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of their opponents later in the day.
The International Cricket Council(ICC) scheduled a meeting last week to discuss the provision of allowing sides to use concussion substitutes in first-class cricket. The committee recommended amendments to the 'Classification of Official Cricket' to allow countries to run a two-year trial of the concussion substitutes proposal.
Cricket Australia has already implemented the discussed proposal allowing concussion substitutes in limited overs domestic games. However, the Australian board requires the approval of ICC to implement it in the Sheffield Sheild in order to retain the first class status of the tournament.
